Professional packing for a house move in Bengaluru

Packing is the single biggest factor that determines whether your move goes smoothly or becomes a nightmare. Done right, your belongings arrive safely, are easy to locate, and take half the time to unpack. Done wrong, you're hunting for the kettle in box #23 while surrounded by a mountain of damaged crockery.

After 10+ years and 5,000+ moves across Bengaluru, here is exactly how our professional packing team approaches each room β€” and how you can replicate it yourself.

Materials You'll Need Before You Start

Gather these supplies before packing a single box. Having everything ready saves hours.

  • Corrugated cartons: Multiple sizes β€” small for books and heavy items, medium for kitchenware, large for bedding and clothes
  • Bubble wrap: For all fragile items β€” electronics, glassware, dΓ©cor
  • Foam sheets / packing paper: Wrapping individual plates, frames, and ceramics
  • Stretch / cling film: Wrapping drawers shut, covering mattresses, sealing liquids
  • Packing tape & dispenser: 2-inch wide tape; you'll use more than you expect
  • Permanent markers & labels: For labelling every box by room and contents
  • Blankets or furniture pads: Protecting wooden furniture surfaces
  • Zip-lock bags: For screws, cables, and small hardware
πŸ’‘ Bengaluru Tip: Buy packing materials from National Market near Chickpet or Shivajinagar hardware shops β€” far cheaper than stationery stores. Alternatively, ask your mover (like us) to supply materials as part of the packing service.

Room-by-Room Packing Guide

🍳 Kitchen

The kitchen is the most time-consuming room to pack. Start here at least 2 days before moving day.

  • Drain and clean the refrigerator 24 hours before moving. Defrost the freezer and dry completely
  • Wrap each plate individually in packing paper, then stack vertically (not flat) in boxes β€” they're far less likely to break this way
  • Nest bowls with foam sheets between each one
  • Use dish cell kits for wine glasses and tall glasses β€” never pack them standing upright
  • Fill a "first-night" bag with: kettle, two mugs, instant coffee/tea, a plate, fork, and spoon
  • Seal all liquids (oils, sauces) with cling film over the opening before closing the cap

πŸ› Bedrooms

  • Dismantle beds and store screws and bolts in labelled zip-lock bags taped to the frame
  • Wrap mattresses in stretch film or mattress bags β€” Bengaluru's roads are dusty
  • Pack clothing in wardrobe boxes (available from us) or suitcases already on hangers
  • Fill drawers with soft items (clothes, linen) to save box space β€” tape them shut
  • Jewellery and valuables: carry these personally, never in the moving truck

πŸ›‹ Living Room

  • Remove TV from wall mount 48 hours before to account for any fixings needed
  • Use original TV box if available. Otherwise, wrap in 3 layers of bubble wrap and mark "FRAGILE β€” THIS SIDE UP"
  • Photograph all your AV/entertainment system cable connections before unplugging
  • Dismantle shelving units and wrap each glass shelf individually
  • Art and frames: wrap in multiple layers of bubble wrap, then cardboard corners, then mark fragile

🚿 Bathrooms

  • Dispose of near-empty bottles β€” not worth moving half-used shampoo
  • Put liquids in a resealable bag inside a box; seal caps with cling film first
  • Keep a small bathroom kit with essentials in your personal overnight bag

πŸ–₯ Home Office

  • Back up all important data before disassembling computers
  • Use original packaging for monitors and desktops where available
  • Label all cables before unplugging β€” coloured tape or cable tags work well
  • Carry hard drives, external storage, and documents personally

The Labelling System That Actually Works

Poor labelling causes most of the frustration on the other side of a move. Use this system:

  1. Room first, then contents: "KITCHEN β€” Plates, mixing bowls, baking tray"
  2. Fragile stickers on ALL four sides and the top of fragile boxes
  3. Colour coding: One colour per room β€” use coloured tape or marker dots
  4. Weight warning: Write "HEAVY" on boxes over 20 kg
  5. Priority boxes: Mark boxes you need first with a star β€” movers load these last
πŸ’‘ Pro tip: Create a simple spreadsheet with Box #, Room, and Key Contents. When you can't find your router on day 1, you'll thank yourself.

What NOT to Pack in the Moving Truck

These items should travel with you personally β€” not in the moving truck:

  • Jewellery, cash, and important documents (Aadhaar, passport, property papers)
  • Medications and medical equipment
  • External hard drives, laptops, and phones
  • Houseplants (transport poorly and may not survive)
  • Hazardous materials (gas cylinders, paints, solvents)
  • Irreplaceable items (heirlooms, wedding albums)

Should You Hire Professional Packers?

Self-packing works for small, simple moves. But if you have a 2 BHK or larger, valuable electronics, fragile art, or simply not enough time β€” professional packers are worth every rupee. We estimate that professional packing reduces damage by over 90% and cuts unpacking time in half.

At Manisha Packers, our packing service includes all materials β€” bubble wrap, foam sheets, corrugated cartons, stretch film, and tape β€” and our team packs a full 3-BHK in 4–6 hours. Learn more about our packing service β†’
